individual psychotherapy for mental health

Talk Therapy /
Process-Based Therapy

This is what most people think of when they hear the word “therapy.” In a safe and welcoming space, you will talk through whatever problems are troubling you and you will identify thoughts, feelings and behaviors that are getting in the way of your daily happiness.

You will explore who you are and where you came from, gain self-awareness, and learn skills that empower you to feel more resilient, balanced, and alive.

evidence-based treatment ART therapy

ART Therapy

ART Therapy is an evidence-based treatment that is known to help women recover from trauma, depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues.

It uses eye movements (similar to those that occur during dreaming) and image replacement while tuning into body sensations to reprogram the way in which distressing memories are stored in the brain and body.

walk and talk therapy

Walk and Talk Therapy

This is similar to traditional psychotherapy except rather than being enclosed in the office, therapy sessions takes place outside while we walk.

Research shows that movement is just as beneficial for the brain as it is for the body, as it releases chemicals in the brain that are associated with improved mood and decreased stress.

Additionally, spending time in nature has shown to be associated with an increase in pleasant feelings and helps connect us to each other and to the larger world.

This service is offered year-round, weather permitting, outside my office in Bloomington, MN.

park bench for seasonal affective disorder therapy

Outdoor Therapy

This is similar to traditional psychotherapy except rather than being enclosed in the office, therapy sessions takes place outside while we sit at a picnic table or bench

This type of therapy can be especially beneficial for individuals who struggle with seasonal affective disorder, depression, or vitamin D deficiency (or really for anyone living in the state of MN where it’s cold 6+ months out of the year).

This service is offered April-November, weather permitting.

somatic therapy for trauma

Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy is a holistic approach to talk therapy, with an emphasis on using the body as a powerful resource, specifically for individuals who have experienced trauma. Our bodies can help us access feelings, sensations, and memories that we might otherwise not be able to access on a cognitive level.

A combination of techniques may be used including establishing personal body safety and awareness, breathwork, mindfulness, grounding, visualization and meditation.

We are hardwired to connect with others. It’s what gives purpose and meaning to our lives, and without it there is suffering.
